How to Set Up Automated Airbnb Reviews

Learn how to set up and manage automated Airbnb reviews including templates, timing, and responses.

Updated yesterday

Overview

Airbnb Auto Reviews let you automatically send guest reviews after checkout using templates and automation timing rules. With the right setup, you can save time while still keeping control over when reviews are sent and how they’re written.

Taking a moment to configure your settings properly helps ensure your reviews go out at the right time, with the right message, and without any surprises.

When are Automated Airbnb Reviews Sent?

Automated Airbnb Reviews are triggered after guest Check Out, based on the timing rules set in your automation. There is a 14 day window from this date in which a host or a guest can submit a review.

Once submitted, reviews are not published immediately on Airbnb. Airbnb uses a double-blind system, meaning reviews are only published once both the host and guest have submitted their reviews, or after 14 days—whichever comes first.

You can also add a delay (e.g. 24–48 hours after Check Out) to give you time to review the booking or resolve any issues before your review is submitted.

How to Create Automated Airbnb Review Templates

Templates allow you to prepare consistent messages that can be automatically applied when responding to guest feedback. Creating multiple templates will automatically mean that Resly can randomise alternate reviews. It's a great way to keep your reviews sounding fresh and not generic.

Positive Review template

  • Great guest! Communication was easy and they left the property clean. Would happily host again.

  • The guest left the property clean and tidy and was respectful throughout their stay.

  • Wonderful guest, everything went perfectly.

Negative Review template

  • Unfortunately, the house rules were not fully respected during the stay. We would recommend reviewing the property guidelines carefully for future bookings.

  • The booking was for a smaller group, but additional guests stayed at the property without prior approval.

  • The guest communicated well, however the property was left in a below-average condition and required additional cleaning after checkout.

Issue-based template

(for Draft or Manual only)

  • The guest checked out without issues, though checkout instructions could have been followed more closely.

  • Overall a smooth stay, though some house rules were not fully followed.

  • Communication was generally fine, though responses could have been more timely about the maintenance issue.

Steps to Create a Template

  1. Navigate to Resly Express > Channels

  2. Click on Airbnb.

  3. Go to the Reviews tab.

  4. Click on Templates.

  5. Select New Template or Edit an existing one.

  6. Add a Template Name

  7. Click on predefined comment buttons, add free text or award stars in each of the following sections:

    Cleanliness

    Communication

    Respect House Rules

    Public Review

    Private Feedback

  8. Checkbox selection if you wish to include "I would recommend these guests" as part of the auto review.

  9. Click Create, bottom right corner to save Template.

How to Automate Airbnb Reviews and Responses

Automations helps you to manage your review of Checked Out Airbnb guests and also manage your response to reviews of your property and services, by your Airbnb guests.

How the review gets created and how your response to a guest review is handled by two settings (screenshots further down):

Review

Controls how your review of a guest is created and submitted to Airbnb after their stay.

You can choose whether reviews are created automatically, saved as drafts for review, or submitted automatically.

Review Response

Controls how your response to a guest’s review is handled after a guest leaves a review for your property on Airbnb.

You can choose whether responses are created automatically, saved as drafts for review, or submitted automatically.

How guest reviews are created and submitted for Airbnb bookings is handled by these Action settings (screenshots further down):

Disabled

No review will be created automatically. Reviews must be written and submitted manually.

Draft

A review will be automatically created and saved as a draft. You can review and edit it before deciding whether to submit it.

Auto Submit

A review will be automatically created and submitted to Airbnb without manual approval.

When using Auto Submit, you can build in a delay by choosing how many days to wait before the review is sent. The review is created as a draft first, giving you time to review or edit it before it is automatically submitted after the selected number of days you have set under the delay.

What is the Content that will be sent?

Review Content

The section defines what text will be used when the system generates the guest review. You can customise this message by using pre defined Templates or alternatively, use AI to generate draft reviews.

Smart Ways to Automate Your Reviews

Use these common setups to automate your reviews while staying in control of timing, content, and responses.

Examples

Review a Guest

Set up an automation to automatically send a review after a guest checks out.

Trigger: After guest Check Out
Review Action: Auto Submit
Delay: 2–3 days after checkout

Why this helps:
Sending the request a few days after checkout gives guests time to return home and reflect on their stay, which can increase the likelihood of receiving a review.

5-Star Review

Set up a Response automation to automatically send a response when a guest leaves a 5-star review.

Condition: Star rating = 5
Response Action: Auto Submit

Why this helps:
Positive reviews are usually safe to respond to automatically, helping you save time while still acknowledging guest feedback promptly.

4-Star and Below Review

Set up an automation to draft a response when a guest leaves a 4-star review.

Condition: Star rating = 4
Response Action: Draft

Why this helps:
A 4-star review is still positive, but reviewing the response before sending gives your team a chance to personalise it if needed.

3-Star and Below Review

Set up an automation to draft responses for lower-rated reviews so they can be edited before sending.

Condition: Star rating ≤ 3
Response Action: Draft

Why this helps:
Lower-rated reviews often need a more thoughtful response, so saving them as drafts allows your team to address concerns more carefully.

AI-Powered Response

Set up an automation to generate AI responses for reviews automatically.

Condition: Any star rating (or filtered)
Response Action: Draft or Auto Submit
Template: AI-generated

Why this helps:
Speeds up response time while still allowing for quick edits before sending.

Example prompt for a host review prompt:

Hi, my name is Rosa and I own a holiday home in Sydney. Please write a generic homestay review for {{FIRST_NAME}}, who recently stayed at my property and was an ideal guest. Be sure to mention that I’d love to welcome them back in the future.

Example prompt for a guest response prompt:

Hi, my name is Rosa, and I own a holiday home in Sydney. Please write a generic guest response for {{FIRST_NAME}}, who recently stayed at my property and left a great review. Make sure to personalise it and mention that I’d love to welcome them back in the future.

Tips for Better Auto Reviews

Auto reviews should probably not be set up to be fully automatic, owing to some post Check Out processes

We have learnt from our customers using this tool

  • The Delay tool is essential - create delays of at least 48 hours after Check Out giving time for inspection of property, before review is auto generated

  • Draft setting allows Property Manager the option to edit a saved version of a template and add in specific details connected a situation or to a less than perfect review

  • Pre-review guest feedback can catch problems early
