New Restrictions When Dealing with Sensitive Data

Information about new security restrictions within Resly. The mandatory use of Two-Factor Authentication for performing sensitive actions.

Updated over a week ago

To enhance the security of your operations and protect your guests' sensitive information, we are introducing new restrictions for certain actions within your Resly dashboard. These changes are designed to safeguard against unauthorised access and ensure that only verified users can perform critical tasks.

What’s Changing?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Requirement

Moving forward, Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) must be enabled on your account to perform the following actions:

  • Bulk SMS or Email to More Than 10 Guests: If you attempt to send SMS or email messages to more than 10 guests at once through the dashboard, you will be required to complete a 2FA verification.

  • Downloading and Exporting Guest Data: Any attempt to download or export guest data will require 2FA verification. Fields marked with a person icon (as shown in the screenshot) will prompt 2FA reauthentication when selected. If these sensitive fields are not included, the download will proceed without requiring 2FA.

How It Works

When you attempt to perform one of these actions, a pop-up window will appear on your screen, prompting you to verify your identity through 2FA. Here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Click the Button to Send Yourself an SMS Code: The pop-up will have a button that says "Send code to mobile ending XXX." Click this button to receive a verification code on your registered mobile number.

  2. Enter the Code: Once you receive the SMS code, enter it into the box provided in the pop-up window.

  3. Proceed with Your Action: After entering the correct code, you’ll be able to proceed with sending bulk communications or exporting guest data.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

If you haven't already enabled 2FA on your account, you will need to do so to continue using these features. Read this article on how to enable 2FA.

Why This is Important

Enforcing 2FA for these actions adds an additional layer of security to your account, helping to prevent unauthorised access to sensitive guest information. This is especially important for actions involving bulk communication or data exports, which could be vulnerable targets for malicious activity if not properly secured.
